Michael is Senior Pastor of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC ,and Adjunct Professor of Pastoral Theology at Hood Theological Seminary. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Polycarp Community, Center for Evangelism and Missional Church Studies, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University.

He conducted his research under the supervision of Professor William J. Abraham of Southern Methodist University and Professor Phil Meadows, formerly of Cliff College, and now at Asbury Theological Seminary.  Michael received the M.Div from Princeton Theological Seminary (1988), the Th.M. from Duke University (1992), the DMin from Southern Methodist University (2002), and the Ph.D. from the University of Manchester (2014).

He is the author of The Oxbridge Evangelist: Motivations, Practices, and Legacy of C.S. Lewis, published by Cascade Press (Wipf & Stock), and by Lutterworth Press in Cambridge, England, 2017. He has also published a spiritual autobiography entitled As the Broken White Lines Become One, Resource Publications (Wipf & Stock) 2018. He is a coeditor (along with Andy Kinsey and Vaughn Baker) of The Logic of Evangelism Revisited, Pickwick Publications (Wipf & Stock) 2019, which examines William J. Abraham’s seminal contribution to evangelization studies, evaluating its continued relevance. His most recent book is a pastoral memoir entitled Losing Church: The Decline, the Pandemic, and Social and Political Storms, Resource Publications (Wipf & Stock) 2022.
