Donald LeRoy Stults, Ph.D.

‘Grasping Truth and Reality: Lesslie Newbigin’s Theology of Mission in the Western World’ (NTC), 2005. Published under the same title by James Clarke in 2009

I was born in Ohio and graduated from Olivet Nazarene University (BA and MA), Nazarene Theological Seminary (MDiv), Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Doctor of Missiology), and University of Manchester (England) with a Ph.D. (theology). I did a summer ministry in Trinidad and Tobago. I served in the Army in Vietnam,  pastored for 8 years stateside (Virginia 2 and Missouri), and was a missionary for 19 years, teaching at Korean Nazarene University (3 years), Asia Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in the Philippines (4 years), Southern Nazarene University (while on furlough,1 year), and European Nazarene College (Büsingen, Germany—2 years).  I also taught courses at Nazarene Theological College in Manchester (Didsbury, England), Taiwan Nazarene Theological College (Taipei, Taiwan), and special ministry courses in Albania.

I served the general church (Nazarene) as pastor to missionaries and missionary kids, International Coordinator for Theological Education for the World Mission Division (as it was then called), and as editor of the World Mission magazine before it merged with Holiness Today. I wrote a children’s missionary book on missionary John Pate (Philippines).  I have published two books on theology: Developing an Asian Evangelical Theology (OMF, Manila), and Grasping Truth and Reality: Lesslie Newbigin’s Theology of Mission to the Western World (Wipf and Stock).

For five years I was Professor of Religion at Oklahoma Wesleyan University (I continue as an adjunct professor). I worked for The Voice of the Martyrs as the Educational Coordinator, developing online classes (VOMClassroom) in persecution studies.

I have contributed articles to Christian History Magazine and Holiness Today (Church of the Nazarene).

I am married to Sue, who has served as a missionary educator and as an associate registrar at MNU and Oklahoma Wesleyan University). We have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren.

I am presently retired and live Gardner, Kansas, USA. I am spending my time writing for periodicals and working on a couple of books, one on Suffering and the Mission of God (which is a theology of mission) and the other book on Journey to the Depths of God (comprehensive book on developing and maturing as a Christian).
