Allan Coppedge, Ph.D.

Emeritus Ralph Waldo Beeson Chair of Christian Theology, Asbury Theological Seminary

Dr Coppedge’s expertise is in the fields of theological studies, Wesley studies, discipleship, and Biblical theology. He is the author of The Biblical Principles of Discipleship, which lays out the biblical and theological foundations for The Barnabas Foundation. He has also written John Wesley in Theological Debate, a description of the theological debates concerning predestination and Christian perfection among the Arminians and Calvinists of the 18th-century revival.  He has published The God Who is Triune: Revisioning the Christian Doctrine of God (2007), which examines the implications of Trinity for our understanding of God's nature, character, and action in relation to providence and creation.

Dr Coppedge is an elder in the North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church, has experience as a pastor in both Georgia and Kentucky and has preached extensively in Central and South America, as well as in Scotland and England. He is the founder and president of the Barnabas Foundation, an organization founded to promote discipleship ministries in seminaries, colleges, local churches and mission organizations. He is also founding director of the Francis Asbury Society. Dr Coppedge frequently preaches at retreats, camp meetings, and special meetings. He is currently doing speaking and writing under the Francis Asbury Society, PO Box 7, Wilmore, KY 40390.
